Gap Store Returns Policy

All store returns, exchanges and price adjustments must be made to the brand of original purchase and in the country of original purchase.

Please note: Certain items are not eligible for store returns and therefore must be returned using our free and easy mail return process. These items are indicated as "Return by Mail Only" on the product page and have a return type of "Mail Only" in your shopping bag and on your invoice.

If you are returning merchandise to a store that was purchased and exchanged online and you have your online exchange invoice/receipt, we will issue you a gift card for the amount of your purchase. If you would like to receive a credit to the credit card used for the original purchase, you must return the merchandise to us by mail.

You can return your unwashed, unworn, or defective merchandise to any Gap, babyGap or GapBody store in the U.S. within 90 days of original purchase date. Online purchases may not be returned to Gap Outlet stores and items marked "Return by Mail Only" may not be returned to any Gap store.

Without an original receipt, Gap stores require valid identification when processing all returns and exchanges. Valid identification is also required to receive or redeem a non-transferable merchandise certificate or mail check.

For returns without the online invoice, the customer will adhere to the return policy stated in the store. Store refunds over $5 will be issued in the form of a merchandise certificate by mail for the current selling price.

Store refunds will be issued in the original form of payment for price paid or a merchandise exchange when returned within 90 days of the purchase date. Merchandise returned more than 90 days after the purchase date will not be eligible for a return.

A mail check will be issued when merchandise over $5 is paid for by check or e-check. Valid ID will be required.

Returns Without an Original Sales Receipt

Refunds will be issued in the form of a merchandise certificate by mail for current selling price.

Merchandise certificates of $5.00 or more will be issued by mail and are non-transferable.

Valid identification is required when processing all returns without an original receipt and to receive or redeem a non-transferable merchandise certificate by mail.

Store refunds over $5 will be issued in the form of an in-store merchandise certificate or merchandise exchange for the price paid.

Online refunds will be issued for the price paid in the form of a gift card or merchandise exchange.

Gap Outlet

Gap Outlet merchandise must be returned to a Gap Outlet Store.

Returned Checks and Payments

We accept your check by utilizing an Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) system. In the event that the EFT or draft is returned unpaid (or if paper check is accepted and the check is returned for any reason), there will be a return fee, as permitted by State or Federal law, of $20 or more (which may include fees, collection costs and applicable state taxes). This fee may be presented to your bank electronically or submitted via paper draft..
