Store Return Policy

Items Purchased in Our Stores

For fast, easy returns, keep your receipt. It not only ensures that you get the proper credit for your purchase, but it also helps our associates process your return quickly.

Returns with an original sales receipt within 90 days of purchase

-Any purchase made by credit card will be refunded to the original credit card

-Any purchase made by cash or with a debit card will be refunded in cash*

-Any purchase made by a check that has cleared the 10-business day waiting period will be refunded in cash*

-Any purchase made by a check that has not cleared the 10-business day waiting period may be refunded as a Store Credit

-Any purchase made by Store Credit, Gift Certificate or Gift Card will be refunded as Store Credit

Returns with an original sales receipt after 90 days of purchase

-A Store Credit or credit to a The Home Depot Commercial credit account may be issued for the original purchase price**

Returns without a sales receipt

-If you made your purchase in the past 90 days by credit, debit, or check we may be able to look up your receipt for you

-If we are unable to look up your receipt because you did not pay with one of the options listed above, a Store Credit or credit to your The Home Depot Commercial credit account may be issued based on the lowest selling price

Special Order Merchandise

-Some Special Order returns subject to a 15% restocking fee. Cancellations may be subject to 15% restocking fee. See the Special Services Desk for details

-Custom made products: No returns

Gasoline Powered Equipment
Returns allowed within 30 days of purchase with an original receipt. No returns, including refunds, exchanges or credits, will be issued without an original receipt. After 30 days, item may be sent out for repair at the customer's expense, unless covered under warranty.

 

 

Gift Cards
Gift Cards, Gift Certificates and Store Credit cannot be exchanged or returned for cash, credit or check.

Note: The Home Depot reserves the right to request valid identification prior to accepting merchandise for a return. The Home Depot reserves the right to limit or refuse to accept the return of certain merchandise at any time and for any reason. The Home Depot will only accept the return of merchandise purchased from a "The Home Depot" store. Purchases made at EXPO Design Center, HD Supply, The Home Depot Landscape Supply, The Home Depot Floor Store or any other The Home Depot Company may not be returned at The Home Depot, unless the item is stocked/sold in the returning store. Items purchased at a Canadian The Home Depot may not be returned in the U.S. Purchases made with a Customer Agreement must be returned to the same location in which it was purchased. See Special Services Desk for details.

The Home Depot may issue a check for refunds over $1,000 (checks are mailed from The Home Depot's Store Support Center in Atlanta, GA).

Sales tax will not be refunded on purchases over 90 days in Massachusetts or Connecticut or without a receipt in Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island.

 

Items Purchased Online.

If there is a problem with your order, please contact us immediately at 1-800-430-3376 so we can promptly resolve it for you.
Most items in original condition may be returned within 90 days of delivery for a full merchandise refund. Merchandise must be returned in unused, like-new condition. See Return Policy Basics for additional restrictions.

Important note: Except in cases where the return is the result of a shipping error or the item arrives damaged or defective, original shipping charges are non-refundable and return shipping fees equal to the original shipping charges will be charged to all returns.

Return Instructions
Items purchased on homedepot.com or through Home Depot Direct catalogs (except for major appliances) cannot be returned to our stores. To return an item(s), please follow the instructions on the Packing List included with your order. If you have any questions, call us at 1-800-430-3376.
Return Policy Basics
Merchandise in unused, like-new condition must be returned within 90 days of delivery, with the following exceptions, for which different terms apply:
Air Conditioners and Generators
 
Whole House Generators

Electronics

Furniture

Plants and Live Goods

Major Appliances

Gift Cards

Items That Use Flammable Liquids or Gases

Items purchased on homedepot.com (except for major appliances) cannot be returned to our stores (including The Home Depot, EXPO Design Center, The Floor Store, HD Supply, The Home Depot Landscape Supply or any other retail store location).

A refund can only be issued to the original credit card used for purchase.

All returns must include the following:

Customer Receipt

Original Packing Slip

Return Authorization from the Return Center

Damaged Items and Shortage Claims
Please inspect all merchandise immediately upon receipt. Any damaged or missing items must be reported within 3 days of delivery by calling toll free 1-800-430-3376.

 -Air Conditioners & Generators
Air conditioners and generators must be returned within 30 days of delivery. Any product damage or defects must be reported within 3 days of delivery. Please also note the flammable liquid exceptions listed below.

-Whole House Generators
Generators designated as "Whole House Generators or Stationary Generators" are non-returnable and non-refundable. Any product damage or defects must be reported within 3 days of delivery.

-Electronics
Electronics, such as TVs, VCRs, DVDs and computers must be returned within 30 days of delivery. Any product damage or defects must be reported within 3 days of delivery.

-Furniture
Furniture must be returned within 30 days of delivery. Any product damage or defects must be reported within 3 days of delivery.

-Gourmet Foods
Gourmet food items, including ones in gift baskets, are not refundable. Please call 1-800-430-3376 within 3 days of the delivery to report damages and we will promptly ship a replacement.

-Plants & Live Goods
Plants and live goods, including cut flowers and holiday trees, wreaths and garland, are non-refundable. Please call us at 1-800-430-3376 within 3 days of delivery to report damaged plants and/or live goods and we'll promptly ship a replacement.

-Major Appliances
Any product damage or defect must be reported within 48 hours of delivery by calling 800-455-3869. After 48 hours, any product issues must be handled through your local The Home Depot store Special Services desk. Be sure to bring a copy of your sales receipt with you.

-Gift Cards
Gift Cards cannot be exchanged or returned for cash, credit or check.

-Items That Use Flammable Liquids or Gases
Please note that items that use flammable liquids or gases cannot be returned if used because they create a safety hazard. For example, if you filled your leaf blower or generator with fuel, it cannot be returned via UPS or mail even if you drain the tank before shipping. Please call 1-800-430-3376 for instructions.
